Zeeman has developed a battery solution for a future-proof energy supply

Zeeman has commissioned an advanced battery and energy management system at its distribution centre to meet additional power requirements despite regional grid congestion. The connected load can be increased via a Capacity Limited Contract (CBC), whereby an EMS automatically reduces the load in the event of grid overload.

Due to increasing automation at Zeeman, additional electrical power was required, but expanding the connection capacity was not immediately possible due to grid congestion in the region. The grid operator offered Zeeman a so-called Capacity Limited Contract (CBC). This contract makes it possible to increase the connection capacity, but requires that, in the event of grid overload, the system automatically switches back to the original connection value. This reduction requires an advanced Energy Management System (EMS) and a certified service provider (CSP).

The battery solution installed at Zeeman creates additional capacity because the future grid connection has already been prepared for higher power levels. This enabled EPC to install additional battery capacity. These batteries act as a flexible buffer for the electricity grid: they store energy and feed it back at strategic moments. In this way, the system actively helps to manage local grid congestion. The value of this flexibility enables EPC to make the battery capacity available to Zeeman.

The battery solution was commissioned on x. Bas Hoekstra, Supply Chain Director: “With this innovative collaboration, Zeeman is taking an important step towards a robust, sustainable and future-proof energy supply for the distribution centre.”

The solution was implemented in collaboration with the following parties:

- Eddy Grid is a CSP (Certified Service Provider). It is also a reseller for EcoPowerCell.

- EcoPowerCell (EPC) for supplying the required battery capacity, ensuring the distribution centre can continue to operate safely and at full capacity even during load shedding.

- Impact Energy, represented by consultant Hans Roosken, supported Zeeman during the tendering process and contract formation between the parties involved.

- Hoppenbrouwers Elektrotechniek installed the battery solution and ensured the integration of the system into Zeeman’s existing energy infrastructure.
